Paris over the holidays

Dec. 23-Jan.1
NOt much in the way of concerts during the holidays here, at least for international acts. The venues usually turn the stage over to local acts. That means you can see some good stuff for free. For example tuesday night Lord Fester Combo played in the bar/restaurant area of the Maroquinerie, for free. Also some good dj nights at La Feline, Le Baron Samedi, la Mecanique ONdulatoire, PLanete Mars, Rocknroll Circus, and Le Motel. This latter one is much more geared toward indie rock for late teens and early twenty-somethings. The others cater to an audience between 18 and 50, and span a lot of the history of RnR and R&B, from Leadbelly to Chuck Berry, Elvis to the Beatles, Desmond Dekker to the Clash, Motorhead to the White Stripes, Louis Prima to the Jim JOnes Revue. If you like a range of these genres, I recommend checking out Dj Le Grand Duc du Kansas. See flyers in this post. All of those bars will have good dj-ed New Years Eve parties. A couple of them will even be open on Christmas eve and Day/night. Here's one at Le Nouveau Casino: a funk allnighter on Xmas.
Happy holidays, parisites!

Honky Tonk Happy Hour

You asked for it. Le Grand Duc du Kansas asked Le Baron Samedi bar if, entre aristocrats, they would give him a tranquil Monday night so you could chill with friends and a drink (or shake your moneymaker) while actually hearing his dope honky tonk and R & B set. Le Baron delivered. And tonight, Monday 13th, from 8h30pm-midnight, you got it.
Expect great early American honky tonk, swing, jump blues, black rocknroll, northern soul, calypso, and ska reggae. The next one will be the second week of January.
